The roller shutter: a fixture of everyday life in France
If you have recently moved to Paris, you will have noticed that almost every French home comes with roller shutters — and for good reason. They add a serious layer of thermal insulation, give you complete darkness in the bedroom, deter break-ins and take the edge off street noise. But a shutter only delivers those benefits when it is well chosen, properly fitted and checked regularly. That is precisely what Store Xpress does: a team of specialist technicians covering Paris and the whole Île-de-France, from the first survey through to after-sales care.
A Haussmann-era apartment with its original built-in shutter boxes, a 1970s suburban house being renovated in Champigny-sur-Marne, a brand-new build to fit out in Cergy: each situation calls for a different technical answer. We assess your openings, the shape of your lintels and the way you actually live before recommending the right curtain, box and control. We never push a one-size-fits-all product — only equipment sized for your windows and your budget, explained clearly and, where helpful, in English.
Everything we do with roller shutters
Installing a brand-new roller shutter
Fitting out an opening that never had a shutter, or working on a new build? Depending on your priorities, we will point you towards a manual roller shutter installation — simple and economical — or an electric roller shutter installation operated by wall switch, remote control or smartphone. Precise measuring, supply, fitting, adjustment and a full demonstration are all included in our packages.
Replacing a worn-out shutter
A warped curtain, faded slats, a shutter box that lets cold air whistle through: past a certain age, replacement costs less than repair after repair. We remove the old unit, dispose of it, and install a modern model that is better insulated and quieter — keeping your existing guide rails whenever their condition allows.
Motorising an existing shutter
There is no need to change the whole assembly just to gain comfort. Motorising a manual roller shutter means swapping the original winch or strap for a tubular motor inside the existing roller tube. A few hours of work that transforms daily use, especially on wide glazed doors.
Emergency repair, day and night
Curtain off its rails, silent motor, shutter jammed halfway the evening before you fly out? Our emergency roller shutter service answers around the clock, weekends and public holidays included, and works on every brand sold in France.
Preventive servicing
A mechanism that is lubricated and checked once a year rarely breaks down. Our roller shutter maintenance plans cover homeowners, building managers (syndics) and businesses, with scheduled visits and a written report after each one — useful documentation for landlords and insurers.

Which type of roller shutter suits your home?
Three questions shape the decision: the material of the curtain, the way it is mounted, and how it is operated.
- PVC curtain: light and affordable, well suited to standard-sized windows, with good insulation. Its weak point is longevity on very wide spans and dark colours on south-facing façades.
- Aluminium curtain: double-walled slats filled with insulating foam, greater rigidity, a wide colour palette. The recommended choice for large glazed openings, ground-floor flats where security matters, and exposed façades.
- Renovation mounting: the box is fixed onto the façade or under the lintel without touching the existing masonry. This is by far the most common set-up in Île-de-France, ideal for apartments and houses alike.
- Traditional mounting: the curtain rolls into the original interior box, typical of older Parisian buildings. We renovate the mechanism while keeping the period joinery intact.
- Integrated window unit: shutter and window form a single factory-assembled block, fitted in one operation when windows are replaced or in new construction.
- Manual, electric or solar operation: a strap or crank handle still makes sense on small openings; a wired or radio motor is the obvious choice for large ones; a self-contained solar-powered shutter avoids any electrical wiring at all.
Roller shutters for co-owned buildings and businesses
Beyond private homes, Store Xpress works with building managers, landlords, embassies, shops and offices: shutter replacement campaigns across an entire residence, colour harmonisation on street façades, bringing electric controls up to standard, or an annual maintenance contract covering dozens of openings. We produce itemised quotes per batch, compatible with French syndic tendering procedures, and schedule works to minimise disruption for occupants — in Levallois-Perret just as in Évry-Courcouronnes. For international companies and relocation agencies, we can handle the whole exchange in English, from the quote to the invoice.

Frequently asked questions about roller shutters
How much does a roller shutter cost, fitted?
Depending on size, material and operation, expect roughly €250 to €600 for a manual model installed, €450 to €1,000 for an electric one, and more for a wide glazed bay or an integrated window unit. The free quote gives you an exact figure once we have measured on site.
Is it better to repair or replace an old roller shutter?
If the structure — guide rails, box and curtain — is sound, a targeted repair is often enough. If the slats are deformed, the box uninsulated and breakdowns keep recurring, replacement works out cheaper over time. We give you an objective opinion on site, with no obligation.
Can a roller shutter be fitted without drilling into the window?
Yes. With renovation mounting, the box and guide rails are fixed to the masonry or under the lintel, leaving the existing window frame untouched. It is the most common solution in Parisian apartments and suburban houses alike.
Do you work on all brands of roller shutters?
Yes. Our technicians repair and motorise shutters by Somfy, Bubendorff, Profalux, Simu and Franciaflex, as well as generic or older makes, using professional-grade compatible parts.
How quickly can you come out in Île-de-France?
For an emergency (jammed shutter, attempted break-in) we attend the same day, often within a few hours. For an installation or motorisation, the appointment is usually set within a few days of the quote being approved.
